Manchester United v. Sheffield United
Manchester United played well in their return to action and, if not for a somewhat weak goal to concede, could have taken all 3 points at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The connection between Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba was strong in their brief time on the pitch together – can they inspire the United attack as the season winds down? As for Sheffield United, it’s been a frustrating return to action. Poor defending on Sunday and bad luck last Wednesday mean the Blades have taken just 1 point from a possible 6 since the restart. Can their previously iron-clad defense stop United’s attack?
Liverpool v. Crystal Palace
Liverpool have hit some major bumps in the road in their last few matches, even despite the massive gap between when those games were played. After a goalless draw at Everton on Sunday, the Reds will be looking to make a statement, and a win here would mean they might be crowned champions by Thursday. Crystal Palace won’t go down easily, however, as they have won each of their last 4 matches without conceding a goal.
Burnley v. Watford
Burnley were soundly beaten in their return to play on Monday. Manchester City smashed 5 past the Clarets, who looked out of sorts. Can they pick up the pieces in time to take advantage of relegation-threatened Watford? Speaking of the Hornets, one point separates them from the relegation zone, but they’ll need to start scoring more consistently to guarantee themselves another season in the Premier League.
Southampton v. Arsenal
Arsenal have looked poor since the season resumed. They were comfortably beaten by Manchester City last Wednesday, then fell 2-1 to Brighton in a match that cost them their first-choice goalkeeper. Can Arsenal’s disaster season finish with a silver lining? Southampton, on the other hand, are all but safe from the drop and have little more to play for than to finish a solid season well. However, the Saints have won just 1 of their last 7 meetings against the Gunners in all competitions.
Chelsea v. Manchester City
Chelsea dominated their match against Aston Villa, but their 2-1 win against Aston Villa was anything but comfortable. Still, the Blues showed positive signs and, with better passing in the final third, could start banging in some goals down the stretch. However, they are running into the buzzsaw that is Manchester City at the moment. Pep’s team have hardly missed a step in their 2 matches back, outscoring opponents 8-0.
