Matchweek 37 Previews
Tottenham v. Leicester City
Jose Mourinho and Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 4 matches as their push for the Europa League forges on. As for Leicester City, they picked up a huge 3 points against Sheffield United on Wednesday to remain in the top-four. The Foxes care clinging onto their Champions League position but have lost their last 7 Premier League away matches dating back to New Year’s Day.
Watford v. Manchester City
After Watford’s loss at West Ham on Friday, it looks like Nigel Pearson’s men will need some points out of their final 2 matches to guarantee safety; those two matches, though, come against Man City and Arsenal. Manchester City have outscored opponents 12-1 on their current 3-match Premier League winning run and are unbeaten in their last 17 meetings with Watford in all competitions, last losing to the Hornets over 31 overs ago.
Aston Villa v. Arsenal
Aston Villa have made a small push and earned 4 points from their last 2 matches but Dean Smith said this week it seems his side need to win their final two matches to avoid relegation. The Villans have lost their last 7 meetings against Arsenal in all competitions and were held goalless in five of those contests. And, Arsenal are coming off a 2-1 win in the Premier League against the champions Liverpool on Wednesday.
Manchester United v. West Ham
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United just can’t seem to lose, as they’re now unbeaten in their last 19 matches in all competitions dating back to January. And if the Red Devils want a chance at Champions League football next season, they’ll want two wins from their final two games to try to move from their 5th-place position into the top-four. Their last stretch begins on Wednesday against West Ham, who they haven’t lost to at Old Trafford since 2007. David Moyes and the Hammers need just one more point to guarantee another season in the Premier League.
Liverpool v. Chelsea
Liverpool will lift the league trophy for the first time in 30 years after their match on Wednesday, and they’ll surely want to do so after a win against a fellow “big 6” club. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 3 meetings with Chelsea, but lost to the Blues in the FA Cup in March. Frank Lampard’s men have lost just twice in their last 10 matches and are closing in on a Champions League spot for next season.
