GOLF PICK 'EM: WGC-FEDEX ST. JUDE INVITATIONAL MATCHUP BREAKDOWNS

Golf Pick 'Em is back for another season of picks and prizes in the NBC Sports Predictor app.

The free-to-play game has returned in 2021 and continues this week with the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Each week participants will choose between a series of head-to-head matchups, plus select an overall tournament champion and winning score.

Participants can compete for weekly cash prizes, with a $50,000 jackpot available for any participants who earn a perfect score (increasing up to $100,000 during some of the biggest events of the year). There will also be at least $1,000 awarded each week in guaranteed cash and prizes, even if there is no player with a perfect score.

The U.S. Open featured a jackpot winner, as one user took home $100,200 after picking Jon Rahm to win at 6 under and getting all 10 matchups correct.

Here's a look at some of the keys to this week's set of 10 matchups as the PGA Tour returns from the action in Tokyo with the fourth final WGC event of the 2020-21 season:

Justin Thomas vs. Brooks Koepka

Keys: This matchup features the two men who have won here since it became a WGC, with Thomas taking the title last year and Koepka holding off Rory McIlroy and others in 2019. Thomas was one of four Americans in the Olympics last week, where he finished T-22 after a final-round 65, and also won this event in 2018 in its Firestone swan song. Koepka is trending in the right direction, with three straight finishes of T-6 or better, and now he heads to a course where he has won and finished T-2 over the last two years.

Collin Morikawa vs. Bryson DeChambeau

Keys: Morikawa made the trip to Tokyo, while DeChambeau was forced to opt out at the last minute. The Open champ acquitted himself well in his first start since Royal St. George's, losing a playoff to C.T. Pan for the bronze medal, and he finished T-20 here last year in his TPC Southwind debut. DeChambeau had to withdraw from the Olympics after a positive COVID-19 test, but he's back in action this week, looking for his first top-10 finish since Quail Hollow. He has struggled somewhat with consistency here, finishing T-30 and T-48 over the last two years.

Xander Schauffele vs. Patrick Reed

Keys: Both men made the trip from Tokyo to Memphis, but only one did so with a gold medal around his neck. Schauffele shined last week at the Olympics, holding off Rory Sabbatini for a one-shot victory after a number of close calls this season. He's now up to No. 4 in the world, with four finishes of T-11 or better in his last five starts, and finished T-6 last year in Memphis. Reed finished T-22 in Tokyo after getting a last-minute call to replace DeChambeau and hasn't finished better than T-19 in his last six starts dating back to the U.S. Open.

Rory McIlroy vs. Jordan Spieth

Keys: McIlroy was a reluctant Olympic participant but nearly made the most of his trip to Tokyo, losing a seven-man playoff for the bronze medal. He struggled here last year but finished T-4 in 2019 while playing in the final group with the eventual winner (Koepka). Spieth enters off a strong showing at Royal St. George's, where he finished second behind Morikawa, and he now has nine top-10 finishes in 14 starts since February. His results in Memphis include finishes of T-12 and T-30 over the last two years.

Daniel Berger vs. Dustin Johnson

Keys: Two men that have shined at TPC Southwind, with Berger getting his first two Tour wins on this course in back-to-back fashion in 2016 and 2017 while Johnson won here in 2012 and 2018 before it became a WGC event. Berger won earlier this year at Pebble Beach and finished T-8 at The Open, while Johnson posted the same result at Royal St. George's but missed the cut at the 3M Open in his most recent start.

Viktor Hovland vs. Phil Mickelson

Keys: Hovland posted a solid result at the Olympics, shooting a final-round 64 to finish T-14 for Norway, but he struggled here last year (T-59) in his TPC Southwind debut. Mickelson is not lacking for Memphis experience, as last year's T-2 finish was a bit of a surprise but also marked his third runner-up result on this course. He's still looking to rekindle the Kiawah magic, having finished no better than T-61 in five starts since the PGA.

Hideki Matsuyama vs. Shane Lowry

Keys: The Masters champ barely missed out on a medal in his homeland, losing a 7-man playoff for the bronze. Both he and Lowry won this event when it was at Firestone, with Lowry winning in 2015 and Matsuyama in 2017. Lowry also played the Olympics last week, finishing T-22, and finished T-12 in defense of his Open title. Matsuyama withdrew from the Rocket Mortgage because of COVID-19, a diagnosis that also kept him out of The Open. Lowry finished T-6 here last year, with all four rounds in the 60s, while Matsuyama was T-20.

Jason Kokrak vs. Stewart Cink

Keys: A battle between two players who have each won twice this season. Kokrak took the CJ Cup in the fall then added a win at Colonial in May, while Cink captured the season-opener in Napa and also took the RBC Heritage in April. Kokrak is teeing it up for the first time since a T-26 finish at The Open, while Cink has missed the cut in each of his last two starts. Kokrak finished T-44 here last year, while Cink hasn't played TPC Southwind since a T-4 finish in 2018 before it became a WGC.

Cameron Champ vs. Cam Davis

Keys: Two Cams who have won recently on Tour, with Davis capturing his first title last month in Detroit while Champ won two weeks ago in Minnesota. Champ's now three Tour wins seem to come out of nowhere, while Davis has finished T-55 and T-28 in his two starts since breaking through. Champ finished T-25 here last year, while the Aussie will be making his Memphis debut.

Louis Oosthuizen vs. Lee Westwood

Keys: Two veterans who have put together some strong play this year without any trophies to show for it. Oosthuizen did it again at the 3M Open, finishing T-2 on the heels of his third-place showing at The Open. Westwood actually earned one of his two PGA Tour wins in Memphis, winning a playoff here in 2010, but he hasn't finished inside the top 20 in a stroke-play event since his runner-up at The Players.
