Manchester City v. Southampton
Last weekend, Southampton suffered the joint-worst defeat in Premier League history, shipping 9 goals against Leicester City. Since then, they have already lost at Manchester City once, and will head back to the Etihad for more on Saturday. Having lost 6 straight meetings against Man City, getting outscored 18-4 in the process, things do not look promising for the Saints. For Man City, they will look to win 3 straight Premier League matches for the first time this season, and will feel optimistic about their chances.
Aston Villa v. Liverpool
Liverpool travel to Aston Villa in this match, as they look to continue their Premier League dominance. After clawing their way back to earn positive results in their last 2 matches in all competitions, the Reds seem to have that special something that could push them over the edge in their quest for a first Premier League title. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 4 Premier League home matches, but have struggled defensively. Can the newly promoted side put an end to Liverpool’s 27-match PL unbeaten run?
Watford v. Chelsea
Watford, who still have no Premier League wins this season, have struggled to build any momentum at all. The Hornets have been held goalless in 4 of their last 5 matches in all competitions, but are facing a Chelsea side that has been shaky defensively all season. Still, Watford have 55 losses in their 73 Premier League meetings against “big 6” sides, so there is little cause for hope. Chelsea, on the other hand, have won 4 straight Premier League matches and have been a surprisingly strong side this season after many had written them off during the preseason.
Crystal Palace v. Leicester City
Leicester City made history last Friday, as their 9-0 win at Southampton was the biggest away win in the 131 years of England’s top-flight. The Foxes have been on fire this season under Brendan Rodgers, entering the weekend in 3rd place in the league. However, they have lost each of their last 4 encounters against Crystal Palace, getting outscored 13-1 in those 4 matches. With just 1 loss in their 5 PL home matches this season, the Eagles will feel like they have a fighting chance against one of England’s most in-form sides.
Everton v. Tottenham
A pair of teams that have struggled to match preseason expectations go head-to-head in this match, with Tottenham off to their worst start in 11 years and the Toffees in similarly bad shape. Everton have lost 5 of their last 6 Premier League matches, and are winless in their last 13 meetings against Tottenham. For Spurs, another away day is the last thing they need, as they are winless in their last 11 PL matches away from home.
