Charlotte Roval Preview

The NASCAR playoffs conclude the first round at Charlotte Motor Speedway, whose Roval layout will be one of the major X factors in the championship race. After nailing the top three at Richmond Raceway (though not in exact order), here are my Predictor app picks for Sunday’s race at Charlotte:

STAGES

First stage (Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson):

PICK: Larson. He was headed for a top-three finish in last year’s race before a late crash.

Second stage (William Byron, Matt DiBenedetto, Erik Jones, Joey Logano):

PICK: Byron. On the cusp of the playoff cutline, he needs as many stage points as possible.

Third stage (Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr.)

PICK: Truex. Hottest driver in Cup also has the current best team on road courses.

Top 3 Overall:

1. Kyle Larson: If you’re seeking another unexpected winner on an unpredictable layout, he’s a solid choice.

2. Martin Truex Jr.: He’ll carry the No. 19’s momentum into the second round as the championship favorite.

3. Denny Hamlin: Always sneaky good on the road courses and looked good at Watkins Glen last month.
