Matchweek 2 Previews
Manchester United v. Crystal Palace
Manchester United begin their season against a Crystal Palace team coming off an opening-weekend win over Southampton. Historically, United have dominated Palace – the Eagles have won only 1 of their 22 Premier League meetings. But – that win came in this fixture last season.
Arsenal v. West Ham
Arsenal have enjoyed quite the week – they kicked off the season with a win at Fulham, and on Tuesday, they signed captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new 3-year contract. West Ham meanwhile began their campaign with a 2-nil home loss v. Newcastle.
Southampton v. Tottenham
Both Southampton and Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from opening-weekend defeats. It’s worth noting – Spurs haven’t lost both of their opening 2 Premier League games since 2011-12.
Chelsea v. Liverpool
Chelsea will welcome the champions to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Though they were outplayed for much of the match, Frank Lampard’s men began the season with a win at Brighton. And Liverpool had to work for their 3 points at home to Leeds. Two attack-minded teams with high hopes this season – we should be in for some goals in west London.
Wolves v. Manchester City
Manchester City will kick off their campaign at Molineux. Sergio Aguero looks set to miss out on the season opener, as he’s still recovering from the knee injury he suffered in June. A surprise could be in-store here – Wolves won both meetings against City last season.
